 PC Viruses In-the-Wild
This is a cooperative listing of viruses reported as being in the wild by 80 virus information professionals. The basis for these reports are virus incidents where a sample was received, and positively identified by the participant. Rumors and unverified reports have been excluded. Some programs included in this list may fall outside the traditional definition of a computer virus. However, such programs are spreading throughout diverse user populations, are a threat to users and are therefore included in this list. This report is cumulative. That is, this is not just a report of which viruses were seen last month. Monthly data is received from most participants, but the new data is added to the old. Participants are expected to let us know when to remove their name from a virus. The list should not be considered a list of "the most common viruses", however, since no specific provision is made for a commonness factor.

IT security podcasts you can't miss
I?m pathetic. I?m so consumed with computer security that when I can?t sleep in the early morning hours, I head to my computer to do research. Often, my wife will awaken to the sound of me banging away on my keyboard, and she slowly creeps downstairs to check on me. Although she won?t admit it, I think she keeps expecting to catch me viewing illicit content. Instead, I?m reading a security whitepaper, compiling exploit code, or testing new malware. And this is why I?m pathetic: Instead of being a voyeur, I?m researching computer security.

Employers Burdened When Employees are Victimized by Identity Theft
Identity theft is becoming the leading crime problem in the United States. Either a crime of opportunity, such as credit card fraud or forged checks, or an organized crime where an individual?s identity information and data, such as social security and driver?s license numbers, are sold on the black market, it touches one in eight Americans every year. An unintended consequence of this crime, which rarely makes the news, is when employers suffer lost productivity, employee absences and workplace distractions due to an employee or employees, victims of identity theft, who need to take the steps required to restore a stolen identity. In response, many employers today are including pre-paid legal services and identity-theft protection plans in employee benefits packages. These services and plans help reduce the employer?s burden when an employee is victimized. [PRWEB Feb 14, 2006]
